The image above on the left, shows the invaluable sea wreck of the FIAT BR 20 “Cicogna”, the last existing specimen
in the world of the 318 aircraft built from 1936 to 1939; on the right it is shown our badge devoted to the "recoveries speciality".
Recovery and cataloging of aircraft lost at sea, being rare or not, are important activities for the genoese section.
In these cases there are many arguments and investigation to be performed, as many consideration linked not only to the recovery
technique(with its objective difficulties such the general state and corrosion of aircraft, the operational depth,
etc.), but also to the technical management of the restoration: missing parts that can be either built from scratch or
recovered from other aircraft, the maintenance of original parts degraded by the time spent in the water.
Some time ago the genoese section performed a feasibility study for the recovery and restoration of this very special aircraft
with some important institutional interlocutors. In particular, it was developed a program for a "special and very particular"
restoration of a very important aircraft, currently not shown in any museum in the world.
The recovery of the aircraft would be done using a special tool based on the project completed by the section and designed by
a small shipyard, involved also in the sponsorship of the operation; alas, the difficulties of the post recovery phase
and of its funding have made impossible to start the operation.
